Pergear has unveiled a new version of its existing 60mm f/2.8 Macro lens with 2x macro and expansion into full-frame support.
This second version of the original lens continues with the 2x macro photography support offered by the original upon its 2021 release and keeps the 60mm f/2.8 specs.
However, while the 2021 edition only worked for APS-C and Micro Four Thirds, this latest edition covers full-frame cameras across several brands.
According to Pergear, the 2023 60mm macro lens delivers macro shooting without vignetting and is also a great option for portrait and other types of photography. This makes it a slightly bulky but robust multi-purpose lens.
Inside the new version of the 60mm f/2.8 lens is an optical design with 10 elements arranged in seven groups that include three high refractive index elements. According to Pergear, these three lens elements in particular help control spherical aberrations and reduce distortion.
The result is a macro lens that creates high sharpness and accurate perspective.
The 60mm lens delivers an aperture range of f/2.8 up to f/16 and has a 10-bladed diaphragm behind a 62mm front filter. The minimum focusing distance of the lens is a reasonably close 7.51 inches or 19cm.
Unfortunately, this lens is only capable of manual focus, but Pergear has given it focus distance and depth of field scales for easier handling.
One the other hand, the new lens’s compatibility with full-frame cameras from different brands is very broad since it can be mounted to Sony E, Nikon Z, Leica L and Canon RF designs. For use with non-full-frame cameras, it also works with Fulfilm X and others such as Olympus.
According to Pergear, “With a 2x magnification, there is no vignetting when shooting at macro, and there is still a little bit of vignetting at the telephoto end,”
The manufacturer also notes,
“The de-clicked aperture ring offers smooth, silent rotation throughout the aperture range, making it ideal for close-range video applications and shooting. The multi-layer coating has been applied to individual elements and reduces flare and ghosting in order to produce greater contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.”
Sample images of typical macro subjects such as insects and water droplets captured with the new lens look quite crisp indeed.
In other words, this particular optic is a useful accessory for anyone who wants versatility and high performance with different cameras while spending a very modest amount.
Pergear is selling the new full-frame edition of the 60mm f/2.8 lens for a very affordable price of just $199. This is actually even cheaper than the $229 price tag of the 2021 original edition.
At this price it’s probably the single most affordable full-frame 2x macro lens you’ll find sold new anywhere right now.
